School Boundary and Quadrant Alignment Project

WORCESTER – Friday, April 3, 2026 – The Worcester Public Schools (WPS) will hold its second public community forum about the ongoing School Boundary and Quadrant Alignment Project on Wednesday, April 15, from 5:00-6:00 PM at Doherty Memorial High School, 299 Highland Street.

The April 15 community forum will be held to share information and gather feedback from parents/caregivers and community members about the ongoing district realignment project. A team from Dillinger Research and Applied Data, a non-profit data analysis organization, will facilitate the forum. Language translation services and childcare will be provided.

Attendees are recommended to bring a smartphone, tablet, or laptop device. WPS will also supply a limited number of tablets for audience members.

In collaboration with community members, families and staff, the district is considering adjusting school boundaries and related systems to more efficiently assign students to schools and improve the experiences of students and families. This could include a student’s walk to school, the school they are assigned to, and various “feeder patterns,” meaning the series of schools a student is assigned to attend based on their residential address.

The goals of the alignment project include:

  • Reducing the student population at schools that are over capacity

  • Increasing the student population at schools that are under capacity

  • Ensuring that programming aligns with school building capacity along with student and community needs

  • Improving school feeder patterns

  • And improve citywide/magnet designations to best reflect the needs of the community

The April 15 forum is the second in a series of public meetings being held this spring before potential scenarios are shared with the Worcester School Committee in June. Additional public forums will commence in late summer and into the fall about specific scenarios with a goal of providing a final presentation to the School Committee in November.
